Tips for Contacting:
Be clear and concise in your message.
Identify yourself as a constituent and a member of the MTLP.
State your position on the legislation, aligning with MTLP values.
Show appreciation for their time and consideration.
2. Participate/Testimony:
Register to Testify: Use the Montana Legislature's remote participation portal at https://www.legmt.gov/participate/ Registration is due by 5 PM the business day before the hearing.
Submit Written Testimony: Even if you're testifying remotely or in person, written comments ensure your voice is documented in the legislative record.
In-Person Testimony: Just use the clipboard outside the room day of the hearing.
3. Watch Legislative Proceedings:
Live Streams: Stay engaged with live legislative sessions via https://sg001-harmony.sliq.net/00309/Harmony/en.
Recordings: Catch up on past proceedings shortly after they conclude.
4. Bill-Specific Actions:
Hearing and Vote Dates: Monitor the session calendar for when bills you care about are up for discussion or vote at https://www.legmt.gov/ Scroll down to “Legislative Meetings & Events”.
Committee Focus: Determine which committees are handling your bills of interest at https://committees.legmt.gov/
General Guidelines for MTLP Members:
Stay Informed: Use the Legislature's bill tracking tools to stay updated on legislation that aligns with or threatens Libertarian principles.
Be Prepared: If you're testifying, practice your remarks. Understand the bill thoroughly and prepare to speak within time limits, respecting the structure laid out by Robert’s Rules of Order (RONR).
Engage Actively: Beyond formal testimonies, engage with your representatives through meetings, town halls, or community events. Promote liberty-oriented solutions and advocacy.
